About the Artist

Born and raised in Richmond, Va., Sharon Call has been a life-long resident of Va. She has been drawn to art, wildlife and horses since a very young age. Collecting, studying and drawing the natural habitat around her was a way of life. Birds were, and still are, of particular interest. Equine art and riding became more prominent in later years, as well as portraits. Sharon studied extensively on her own to improve her techniques.

As an adult, her focus was on commercial graphics while raising her two daughters. For years, she designed and produced signage, logos, camera-ready artwork for commercial application, and designs for glassware, dishes, etc. for the tourism industry. As a side job, she produced commissioned portraits of people and domestic animals.

Sharon moved with her husband, Manfred, to their farm in Culpeper, Va. in 1996. Their son was born in March of 1999. They have established a thriving game bird farm and preserve on their property. Today, you will find Sharon working in her home studio, when she's not conducting field studies and gathering material. She is an avid follower of fox hunting and horse racing since being exposed to it a few years ago. She spends as much time as her schedule will allow photographing and observing the hunts, and their equine events, obtaining reference material for her paintings.

Thornton Hill RacesIn 2006 Sharon decided to devote herself full time to her lifelong passion, fine art painting. Since that time, she has been showing and selling her artwork at local shows as well as privately. She shows regularly at "Art at the Mill " in Berryville,Va. In 2007 she received first place for Best Pastel in Show at the 60th annual "Neighborhood Art show" in The Plains, Va. She was accepted into the Master of Foxhounds Association of America's "2007 Centennial Traveling Art Exhibition." She has exhibited and sold art work in numerous other local shows. She receives pet and people portrait commissions on a regular basis.

Sharon's future plans involve expanding her body of work for gallery presentations, as well as continuing to exhibit in local shows. She will be submitting her art work outside of Virginia as well. Sporting art, landscapes, and the natural world (particularly including ornithology) will continue to be central themes in her painting curriculum.

Sharon will be accepting a limited amount of commissions throughout the year, so please contact her with any interests that you may have.
